Description
Algueira Pizarra is a red wine from the Ribeira Sacra Denomination of Origin made from 100% Mencia grapes.
It is perhaps one of the most recognised references in the winery's history. The grapes come exclusively from the Carballocobo estate. The whole bunches of grapes without destemming are trodden by foot and subjected to a cold pre-fermentation maceration with an exhaustive temperature control. After more than 30 days, the wine is aged in French oak barrels and foudres for 12-18 months.
Algueira Pizarra Tasting Notes
Already in the glass it shows an intense cherry red colour, medium-high depth, with a very intense nose and the complexity of the interesting red fruit, the balsamic notes of the terroir and the minerality that gives the wine its name.
The attack on the palate is fresh and its passage is intense, structured, with a crisp tannicity, complex and warm. With very long aftertaste and an aftertaste that evokes the mineral character of the terroir and its production with raspón.
