Description

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieux Piedlong is a red wine made by Domaine du Vieux in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the Southern Rhône, from 90% Grenache and 10% mourvèdre grapes.

It comes from vineyards with an average age of 70 years, located on a stony plateau called Piedlong for the Grenache and in the heart of the AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape, specifically in the Lieu-dit Pignan east of Piedlong for the Mourvèdre.

The grapes are harvested by hand, with light crushing and selective destemming. Traditional fermentation takes place for a minimum of 30 days in concrete and wood tanks, under strict temperature control. The aging period extends between 20 and 22 months in French oak barrels of 60 hectoliters. The wine is bottled without fining or filtering, thus preserving its authentic character.

Tasting Notes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieux Piedlong

This wine is a sublime expression of elegance, power, generosity and freshness. Its complexity is revealed from the first impression, with 50 whole clusters bringing a slightly stony and herbaceous character, balanced with an aerial and magnificent presence on the nose. Aromas of roses, menthol, cherries and raspberries give life to a rich and captivating olfactory palette.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet light in feel and silky in texture. The tannic structure provides perfect balance, and the long, lingering finish leaves a lasting impression. This particular vintage stands out for its special character, making this wine a truly exceptional experience for lovers of refined and complex reds.
