Description
Domaine Ostertag, Grand Cru Muenchberg Riesling is a white wine made from Riesling by Domaine Ostertag in Alsace (France).
Muenchberg is a magnificent south-facing natural amphitheatre in a valley at the foot of the Vosges Mountains in Nothalten. On volcanic ash soil, with pink sandstone, the unique terroir gives the wines their fantastic lively character.
From vines ranging from 30 to over 75 years old and planted in red sandstone and volcanic sediments, Ostertag's Muenchberg Riesling is intense and concentrated on a deep, clear and elegant nose, with perfectly ripe fruit aromas that blend perfectly with the spicy and warm notes of the terroir.
Adolphe Ostertag created the Domaine in 1966. His son André took over in 1980, assisted by his sister Annie. There are 15 hectares of vineyards, made up of a hundred or so plots spread over five different terroirs.
Tasting Notes of Domaine Ostertag, Riesling Muenchberg
Straw yellow, not very deep. The nose reveals fruity and aromatic notes, accompanied by hints of aromatic herbs and marked minerality.
It has an incomparable elegance and intensity. The delicate texture of the sandstone meets the power of the volcano in a sensual but very vibrant wine. The feminine charm of the sandstone perfectly balances the masculine fire of the volcano. The finish is timeless, savoury and spicy, of rare complexity and nobility.
