Description

Among the centuries-old Verdejo vines of El Pago de Saltamontes, a family vineyard dating back to before 1863, there is an unusual red grape variety, of unknown genetics, which Javier Sanz has recovered for its originality and which can only be found today in his vineyards.
Colorado is a genuine variety due to its ampeology: shiny and very jagged leaves, small, cylindrical and loose grapes (which favours aeration and sunlight) and white flesh with red veins. In addition, it is a very vigorous plant and difficult to pomegranate, with high quality productions but low yields, so it requires continuous pampering in the vineyard. After years of grafting to reproduce the only original plant of this extinct variety, the Colorado has settled in the family vineyards of La Seca, characterised by soils composed of a surface of pebbles and clay subsoil, which favours better thermal and water regulation.

Tasting Notes by Javier Sanz V Colorado

This wine stands out for its originality.

On the nose, it is a complex wine that evolves showing a great aromatic diversity. Spicy, balsamic, it offers notes of scrubland, always with a clear background of fruit (blackberry, raspberry and plum). It is surprising for its great personality and the breadth of its aromatic registers.

In the mouth, it is a tasty, fresh wine, with a pleasant acidity, which stands out above all for its very tasty aftertaste and its extraordinary persistence.
