Mullineux Old Vines White 2020
D.O Wine of Origin Swartland
Chenin Blanc
Description
Mullineux Old Vines White is a white wine made from Chenin Blanc by the Mullineux & Leeu Winery under the Swartland appellation in South Africa.
Swartland is blessed with a lot of old vine Chenin and they use it as the backbone of the white blend. They then add several small parcels of Mediterranean varieties to achieve complexity, balance and aromatic lift. The grapes come from vineyard plots in different parts of Swartland: the stony slate and shale soils of the Kasteelberg, the decomposed granite of the Paardeberg and the rolling iron-rich hills to the west of Malmesbury.
Fermentation is in barrel with indigenous yeasts and the wine is aged for 11 months in French oak barrels, 20% new.
Mullineux & Leeu is a young winery founded in 2007, but in a very short time has established itself as one of South Africa's most recognised wine brands. Its plots are located in the Swartland region, with soils composed of granite and marl with excellent potential for the production of quality wines.
Mullineux Old Vines White Tasting Notes
Pale straw in colour, this wine has a nose of ripe green citrus and Christmas spices. The palate is fresh and richly textured, with notes of ripe pears, almonds and peaches, and a clove-like finish.
