Raats Jasper Red Blend 2018
Malbec Cabernet Franc
Description
Raats Jasper Red Blend is a red wine made by Raats Family Wines in South Africa from Cabernet Franc, Malbec and others.
His mastery of chenin blanc and cabernet franc is earning him accolades from around the world as Stellenbosch's "most exciting and forward-thinking winemaker".
As part of the new wave of South African winemakers, Bruwer makes soil-specific wines that embody the unique characteristics of the region. With hand-harvesting, whole bunch pressing and the use of natural fermentation without fining or filtering, he helps him create world-class wines.
From trellised and bush vines with an average age of 21 to 28 years grown on 100% decomposed dolomitic granite soils. The grapes were hand sorted three times, crushed and left to cold soak on the skins for five days. After fermentation, the grapes were basket pressed and left to undergo malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine was then aged for 16 months before bottling.

Tasting Notes for Raats Jasper Red Blend
Exceptionally intense and complex on the nose with blackberry, black cherry and blackberry in abundance and subtle hints of forest floor, dark chocolate, aniseed and spicy tobacco. The Black Forest ride continues with blue and blackberry dancing on the tightrope with focus and concentration, following through to a velvety, fine-grained and perfectly balanced palate. The finish lingers with hints of fresh mint, cinnamon and perfume. Complex and structured.
