The Fondillón, although not enjoying the fame enjoyed in the 15TH century, is without discussion one of the great values that has allowed the development of Alicante wine throughout history. Desired by monarchs and literati his fame ran like gunpowder until the NINETEENTH century. The TWENTIETH century served to lose the luster that one day had, being in the hands of very few producers. Nowadays there are few areas that keep alive the elaboration of sweet wines of red grapes, and the few that survive are focused here in Alicante and Tarragona.
