Description

Valeyo is a red wine produced by Bodegas Mauro in the Bierzo DO with 95% Mencía and 5% Godello.
Valeyo is the name of the wine produced by Bodegas Mauro in the historic region of Bierzo. This is the García family's fifth winemaking area, preceded by Bodegas Mauro (1978, Tudela de Duero), San Román (1997, DO Toro), Garmón Continental (2014, DO Ribera del Duero) and Baynos (2020, DO La Rioja).

Bodegas Mauro's foray into El Bierzo began in 2013 with the creation of Mauro Godello, a commitment to the production of excellent white wines for ageing. As they gradually selected and acquired small plots in the region, Bodegas Mauro established themselves in El Bierzo with the purchase of a historic winery in Villafranca in 2019. In the same year, they launched the first vintage of their plot-produced red wine made from the Mencía grape variety: Valeyo 2021.

This family venture is characterised by its limited production, its search for excellence, its close connection with the territory and its focus on organic farming.

The vineyard is farmed organically, using biodynamic practices to ensure sustainable and preventive viticulture. These practices guarantee the maintenance of soil fertility and balance, as well as the prevention of erosion.

Valeyo tasting notes

This is a wine that fully embodies the Atlantic character, showing both the fragrance and the depth and seduction that the Mencía grape variety and a small percentage of Godello can offer. This wine is grown at an altitude of over 600 metres on a hillside in a privileged location, which contributes to its uniqueness and distinctive quality.
